Perhaps you're fantasizing about leaving your job, but you have a sneaking suspicion that escaping might not be the answer to the satisfaction you seek. No matter where you work, your issues will follow. If you're miserable, bored, or feeling blah with your job, read this book to learn how to flourish. Step-by step, leading happiness expert Stella Grizont guides you through evidence-based techniques to help you feel fulfilled no matter where you work. The Work Happiness Method teaches eight inner skills:
1. Resilience: Manage your mind, uplift your mood, and quiet your inner critic;
2. Clarity: Know what you really want and develop your own vision of success;
3. Purpose: Make conscious decisions with confidence and live your values every day;
4. Boundaries: Avoid burnout, stop people pleasing, and take care of yourself;
5. PlayMindset: Decrease anxiety while embracing uncertainty;
6. Discovery: Explore opportunities that most engage you;
7. Approach: Transform confrontations into conversations;
8. Refocus: Return to what matters (without pushing so hard).
Let Stella help. Your life is too precious, your talent is too great, and the people you love are way too important for you to waste another day feeling miserable at work.

      Executive coach Grizont debuts with an ambitious if overstuffed guide to feeling more professionally fulfilled. Spotlighting eight “inner skills” to “help you take control where you can,” Grizont outlines how readers can boost resilience by keeping a gratitude journal; “refocus” on their priorities after setbacks by “trusting that growth is inevitable and being optimistic that it will work out”; and clarify priorities by brainstorming a personal “definition of success.” Interspersed throughout are useful exercises for setting small-scale goals and crafting a personal vision statement by imagining one’s ideal life five years in the future. However, the tips for drawing boundaries aren’t always practical, especially for those in more junior roles (for example, Grizont suggests responding to an unwanted weekly meeting invitation with a terse “Thanks for including me, but I have to sit this one out because I’m already booked”). While the sheer volume of suggestions tends to overwhelm, Grizont’s advice on how to “job craft” to customize one’s existing role is welcome, as is her balanced outlook that while no job is perfect, it’s possible to increase one’s day-to-day happiness by tackling “what’s within your reach.” Discontented professionals willing to pick and choose what works for them will be fortified. Agent: Jill Marsal, Marsal Lyon Literary.

      Narrating parts of this personal growth audio, the author sounds sincere and easy to understand. Her humane interest in helping others navigate today's challenging workplaces creates a satisfying connection between listeners and the humble person behind this guidance. When Winsome Brown narrates her chapters, her polished cadences and pitch range convey the strength and conviction found in the sophisticated, well-crafted advice. The author's eight skills for workplace survival spell out the habits and attitudes that unhappy workers typically neglect--and offer a menu of self-affirming priorities they can tackle one by one. What lingers the most is the author's heartfelt invitation to speak up for what's personally important instead of letting our jobs and careers limit what we get out of work and life.
