Best-selling authors Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown are everybody's favorite human/feline writing team. In this warm-hearted puzzler, "Mary Minor Harry" Haristeen is preparing for her 20th high school reunion when trouble comes to the seemingly sleepy town of Crozet, Virginia. It all begins when classmates receive anonymous letters with a simple message: "You'll never get old." Some take the note as a compliment, others think it's a harmless practical joke. But when the class womanizer turns up dead, the message suddenly has a far more sinister meaning. Can Mrs. Murphy, Harry's sleuthing cat, sniff out the killer? Listeners will delight as Mrs. Murphy, with assistance from her four-legged companions Pewter the cat and Tee Tucker the Welsh corgi, scratch through the clues. Kate Forbes' charming narration captures the unique spirit of each character, whether human, feline, or canine.

With the help of two cats and a corgi, Mary "Harry" Haristeen, Postmistress of Crozet, Virginia, tries to learn why murder is dogging her twentieth high school class reunion. The Best-Looking Senior is the first to die, shot point-blank right between the eyes, soon followed by the Wittiest. What links them in the murderer's mind? Kate Forbes shapes her voice perfectly to suit both the furry and furless in Brown's eighth cozy featuring tiger cat and detective-helper, Mrs. Murphy. Her portrayal of convincing chatter among cats, dogs, horses, mice, a possum, and an owl parallels the humans' talk, anticipating their solution. In that way, she vindicates all pet-lovers, who have always known their beloved animal friends were just waiting for the right moment to step in and save the day. E.V. Mary Minor "Harry" Haristeen and her intrepid trio of animal sleuths are back for an eighth--and winsome--adventure (following Cat on the Scent). Harry, postmistress of seemingly bucolic Crozet, Va., and her classmates are excited about their upcoming 20th high school reunion. They share bittersweet memories of that time when everything seemed possible, as preparations proceed to welcome back far-flung classmates. But it quickly becomes apparent that one person's memories are only bitter: weeks before the celebration, each classmate receives an anonymous letter reading, "You'll never get old." The class Casanova then gets a bullet between the eyes; more threatening letters follow. While the humans involved argue, dither and try to figure out what's behind the murderous rage turning their reunion into a killing ground, Mrs. Murphy, Pewter and Tee Tucker (Harry's sage tiger cat, plump gray cat and Welsh corgi, respectively) conduct their own investigation. Brown's appealing sense of humor, well-constructed setting and competent plotting carry the day. Her talking, thinking animals are funny and, for those who like this sort of thing, even adorable.
