Becca is using her trip to her best friend's wedding as an opportunity. She is a young journalism student and a "good girl" who was always where she was supposed to be, but she made choices that hurt people she cared about. A clandestine affair with an older man had felt so exciting, but led to the loss of everything she thought she wanted?her friends, her scholarship, her future. Now she is driving up the California coast with the man who had once been so dear to her, hoping she can rekindle the friendship they once had. With scenes taking place alternately in the mid-nineties and then in 2008, this moving story paints a portrait of the mistakes we all make in youth and leaves the reader with the hopeful reminder that sometimes the things we're nostalgic for can be had again if we're willing to work for them. A great read for the now grown-up fans of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants or Judy Blume. The Summer Hours is a perfect summer read.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)
