Grades 4-6 In 1971, 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke was on a plane with her mother from Lima, Peru, to her parents' research station in the Amazon rain forest. The plane broke apart in a storm, and Juliane, still strapped to her seat, plummeted nearly 10,000 feet to the forest floor. When she regained consciousness, she was injured but able to stand and make her way along a nearby stream, hoping to find civilization. She reached a shelter 10 days later and was found by three forest workers. The graphic novel narrative employs images that capture the emotions of her ordeal. The writing is clear and accessible, and back matter includes more about Juliane, a time line, and a map of her trek. A dramatic and gripping offering from the True Survival Tales series (6 titles).
