Hannah loves her son Jack more than anything, but the eight months following his birth have been anything but blissful. The difficult delivery left Hannah with visions of a birth in which Jack did not survive. Her fears come to fruition when she finds an empty crib where her son should be; to make matters worse, other people's memories of a still-alive Jack are eroding at an alarming speed. Discovering a way to travel between alternate realities, Hannah embarks on a mission to save her son and unlock the mysteries of her past. In a novel initially presented as a psychological thriller, Goldstein-Love (The Passion of Tasha Darsky) instead offers an expression of postpartum anxiety and maternal love brilliantly dressed as a blend of science-fiction and fantasy. Narrator Saskia Maarleveld provides an outstanding performance as a desperate mother, with an emotional intensity that elevates the heart-wrenching narrative into something inspirational. VERDICT Goldstein-Love delivers an inventive and satisfying blend of genres and narrative elements exploring the anxieties of parenthood alongside quantum physics. Recommended for fans of fiction integrating science in a manner similar to Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time or Octavia E. Butler's Kindred.--Andy Myers
