“Heartfelt, heartwarming, joyful, and uplifting. You can't go wrong with a Rachel Linden book.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber
After a day of unrivaled disappointments, a promising young chef finds every bite of food suddenly tastes bitter. To save her career, she travels to the Pacific Northwest to reconnect with her estranged mom, and discovers a family legacy she never suspected in this delicious novel from the bestselling author of The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie.

American chef Georgia May Jackson has one goal—to run her own restaurant in Paris. After a grueling decade working in Parisian kitchens, she is on the cusp of success. But in one disastrous night, Georgia loses her sous-chef position, her French boyfriend, and her sense of taste! Renowned for her refined palate and daring use of bold flavors to create remarkable dishes, Georgia is devastated to discover her culinary gift has simply...vanished.
When she receives a surprising invitation from her estranged mother, Georgia flees to a small island near Seattle hoping the visit will help her regain her spark in the kitchen. As she tentatively reconnects with her mom, a free-spirited hippie eager to make up for her past mistakes, Georgia realizes there is something about the enigmatic island she just cannot piece together. Good luck charms start appearing in the oddest places. Her neighbor is a puzzlingly antagonistic (and annoyingly handsome) oyster farmer. And her mom keeps hinting at a mysterious family legacy.
With the clock ticking and time running out to win her dream job in Paris, Georgia begins to unravel some astonishing secrets that make her wonder if the true recipe for a charmed life might look—and taste—very different than she ever imagined.

Set in a bucolic corner of Friday Harbor, WA, and the glittering culinary scene of Paris, Linden's (The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie) newest follows chef Georgia May Jackson as she discovers her heart's true desire. Abandoned by her mother and having grown up in a family that tended toward coldness, Georgia knows a few things in her bones: Julia Child will always answer the questions Georgia poses in her head; her dishes sometimes have a magic she does not understand; it's her destiny to run a Paris restaurant; and four-leaf clovers have special power. When Georgia loses her job in Paris, and her ability to taste anything but bitter flavors, she decides to reply to an email from her long-lost mother and flies to see her in Friday Harbor. There, in a tiny cottage with a thriving garden, alongside a man facing his own bitterness, she finds answers deep in her family history to questions she never knew to ask. VERDICT With delicate touches of magical realism and an abiding sense of comfort, Linden offers a gentle hug of a story. Suggest to fans of Sarah Addison Allen.--Neal Wyatt

Georgia May has worked her entire life to become a world-class chef, growing her career from Texas to Paris, all while following Julia Child as her guiding light. Just as she approaches the life she's always dreamed of, a sudden betrayal rips almost everything away, including her boyfriend, her job, and even the sense of taste needed for her craft. The moment Georgia has nowhere to turn, her estranged mother reaches out, asking her to visit on San Juan Island in Washington State. As Georgia begins to open up towards her mother, secrets are revealed to her, encouraging her to experience new things. Slowly, Georgia's sense of taste returns, her cooking skills expand, and her ability to connect with other people begins to flourish. This poignant story folds in themes of food and cooking with magical realism, grace, and a touch of romance. Recipe for a Charmed Life is spiritual but not overtly religious, and readers of Linden's previous novels will be charmed by it, as will Heather Webber fans.
