A hulking, headstrong warrior named Fafhrd and a nimble, cunning rogue called the Gray Mouser seek their fortune across a richly imagined fantasy world rife with danger and intrigue in this hefty collection of graphic adaptations of concepts and characters created by the late SFF author Leiber (coiner of the sword and sorcery subgenre). The mismatched duo embark upon an expedition through the afterlife, race to obtain a bejeweled skeleton, and pursue a vile enslaver across land, sea, and even sky via airship in a series of stories, created by writer Dennis O'Neil (The Question Omnibus) and an array of collaborators, including Jim Starlin (Order and Outrage, Vol. 1) and Walt Simonson (X-Men: X-Verse) for DC Comics' short-lived Sword of Sorcery anthology in the early 1970s. While O'Neil and company strike a playful tone in portraying their heroes' swashbuckling adventures, Howard Chaykin (Hey Kids! Comics! Vol. 3) and Mike Mignola (Four Gathered on Christmas Eve) betray a grimmer sensibility in a set of seven more psychologically and emotionally intense tales of doomed romance and necromancy, originally published by Marvel's Epic line in the early 1990s. VERDICT Fans of sword and sorcery fantasy will find much to embrace within this hefty omnibus.
